Program Assistant

Job Title: Program Assistant (Part-Time, Independent Contractor)

The Diaspora Academy (TDA) is a global diaspora leadership and engagement institute dedicated to empowering diaspora leaders and changemakers to create impactful initiatives. We provide training, workshops, and advisory services tailored to support global diaspora communities.

 

Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive and organized Program Assistant to support our ongoing programs and help develop our Digital Diasporas program. This independent contractor role involves administrative and programmatic support across courses, consulting and advisory offerings, with additional emphasis on developing our Digital Diasporas program. The position will be hybrid, with the Program Assistant working remotely most of the time and attending virtual and in-person meetings on occasion in the Washington, DC area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programmatic Support (75%):
    • Assist in executing and enhancing TDA research data, course designing and consulting-related projects.
    • Conduct diaspora research and diaspora mapping,
    • Oversee diaspora stakeholder organization, and management tasks.
    • Manage and track program survey responses 
  • Administrative Support (25%):
    • Support the development of TDA's Digital Diasporas program and related initiatives.
    • Document meeting notes and action items.
    • Attend TDA internal and external-facing meetings with diaspora stakeholders.
    • Provide general administrative assistance (excluding calendar and email management). 

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational, research and communication skills.
  • Experience in program support, research, administration, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with diaspora communities, global development, and cultural preservation is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for data management and virtual communication.

Work Environment

This position is remote, with flexibility to work within agreed-upon hours. The candidate may occasionally attend virtual meetings in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. 

Compensation

This is an independent contractor role, and compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.

Marketing Intern

The Diaspora Academy (TDA) is a premier online engagement and leadership institute, providing specialized consulting, training, and advisory services to diaspora leaders, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizers.  We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Marketing Intern to support our marketing and outreach efforts, particularly in the African diaspora community in the United States.

Position Overview
The Marketing Intern will conduct basic African diaspora market research in the United States, engage with African diaspora media, support social media marketing efforts, and assist with day-to-day administrative tasks. This position offers hands-on experience in marketing research, diaspora outreach, and digital marketing, with the opportunity to contribute to the growth of The Diaspora Academy’s engagement with diaspora communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Research: Conduct research on the African diaspora market in the U.S., identifying trends, key media outlets, and opportunities for engagement.
  • Social Media Marketing: Support the development and execution of social media marketing strategies to engage with the African diaspora across platforms.
  • Media Engagement: Assist in identifying and engaging with African diaspora media outlets for partnerships and outreach efforts.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with day-to-day administrative duties related to marketing, including scheduling, organizing marketing materials, and preparing reports.
  • Content Creation: Support the creation and curation of content for social media and other digital platforms.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in marketing research, social media marketing, or diaspora outreach.
  • Knowledge or experience working with the African diaspora in the U.S. is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the U.S. market and media landscape.
  • Experience using social media platforms for marketing and engagement.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a remote work environment.
  • Based in the United States or experienced in working with the U.S. market.
