We are based in the United States, and most of our service providers are too. If you live outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and used in the United States. Some providers may also store or process it in other countries.

When your information moves from the EEA or UK to the United States, we rely on the safeguards our service providers offer, such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

You can ask us for more detail about these safeguards. See “How to Contact Us.”

Text messages. If you receive text messages from us, reply STOP to any message to stop them. You can also email info@thediasporaacademy.com to be removed from our text list. Your email and text choices are separate. Opting out of one does not change the other.

Your privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • know how we use your personal information, which this policy explains;
  • get a copy of your personal information;
  • correct information that is wrong or incomplete;

  • complain to a data protection authority. See “How to Complain.”

These rights are free. Some apply only in certain situations. You may also have the right to claim compensation if we break data protection law. To learn more, visit https://www.edpb.europa.eu (EU), https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/ (UK), https://oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa (California), or https://www.priv.gc.ca/en (Canada).

We may need to confirm who you are first. We will ask only for what we need, usually the email address linked to your account. We will not ask for a copy of an ID document unless we cannot confirm who you are another way.

We will reply within one month. If your request is complex, we may take up to two more months, and we will tell you why.

Keeping Your Personal Information Secure

We have appropriate security measures in place to prevent personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way. We limit access to your personal information to those who have a genuine business need to know it. Those processing your information will do so only in an authorized manner and may be subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We also have procedures in place to deal with any suspected data security breach. We will notify you and any applicable authorities of a suspected data security breach where we are legally required to do so. It is important to understand that no security measures are absolute. We cannot guarantee the safety of any information you provide to us.

Any comment or information that you post on the website or social media page, or in any public or private participant area or group, may become public and third parties may use your information. We are not responsible for any unauthorized uses by third parties in such context. You disclose such information at your own risk.

How to Complain

We hope that we can resolve any question or concern you raise about our use of your information. You can reach us at info@thediasporaacademy.com.

You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority at any time. In the UK, that is the Information Commissioner’s Office (https://ico.org.uk). The European Data Protection Board lists these authorities at https://www.edpb.europa.eu.
